Day 15 - York University
Today I woke up at 6:30 in order to get ready and meet my group at school. By 7:30, I made it to the school and we headed to the university. We arrived literally exactly at 9:15, better than expected. :)
The first presentation was about computer science in general, this was exceptionally boring as there were too many slides, the information was too detailed, and the speaker was extremely boring. I was glad when it was over.
The second presentation was about the robotics team and how they build the rovers for the yearly competition with other universities, this was much better than the last lecture and I actually paid attention this time.
The third presentation was short but it was hands on, basically we sat in a computer lab with gaming PC's and we began to remotely hack each others computer. This was extremely fun, and was the highlight of the field trip in my opinion.
Lunch was great as-well, although the prices at the university were much too high. The so called "refreshments" were a complete lunch by themselves.
The final lecture was about computers and surgery, this started off pretty boring, but got pretty gore and exciting. During this lecture I was trying to plan how wed get back to the school via TTC.
After this lecture we were dismissed and surprisingly we got back to the school fairly easily, though our group was very immature on the bus/subway, and many people got frustrated with us. :)
Overall the field trip was very good, better than I had imagined it would be, I hope we can have another field trip sometime this year in this class.

Day 14 - Confusion
Today, we were assigned to complete the purse class, which I wasn't able to do, due to the lack of syntax knowledge. Mr. Arkin went over it and it kind of made sense, although it feels like its going to be really hard to learn the java syntax.
After school I spent hours researching the best TTC routes, and found a gimmicky way to get to York University in an hour rather than 1.5 hours. The group is relying on me, I hope we don't get lost. :P

Day 13 - Java # 2
Today, Mr. Arkin gave the 4U students a note, which lasted pretty much the whole period. I was completely baffled by what he was saying and tried not to get myself confused. We were assigned to try and make sense of the calculator class, but it made completely no sense to me.
I also handed in my permission form for the field trip on Friday.

Day 12 - Java
Today we began learning about Java using the IDE, Dr. Java. It didn't really make much sense, but Mr. Arkin said it was magic, so i had to believe him.
We also received the permission forms for the field trip to York University which i signed and placed in my bag to ensure that I will not forget it.

Day 11 - Rush
Today was the final day to work on the superpower autobiography assignment, and I had gotten much of the content I needed done by the end of the period. I continued to iron out the HTML and CSS bugs at home and clean up the grammar mistakes. When it came time to peer mark, my partner wasn't done with this superpower assignment and therefore couldn't peer mark my page. I requested a partner on the wikispaces discussion, with no luck, eventually my partner finished his page and we peer marked each other.
That was a close one, but hopefully i will receive a good mark on his assignment.

Day 10 - A bit behind
Today, we were assigned to begin practice peer marking our pages, and it wasn't until now that i realized that I was a bit behind on schedule, Ive been working solely on the "looks" of my page and very little on the actual content. I am nearly finished with the CSS, and will work as hard as I can tomorrow to get the actual content finished with.
Mr. Arkin also confirmed the field trip to York University. We have to be there by 9:15, and its about an hour and a half away and I'm not very good at TTC routes. Game over.

Day 9 - div
Today I began using the "div" tag, which is short for "division". Basically it's a way to split up the body into multiple pieces. I made it so if you were to hover the mouse over a div, the opacity will become 100% from 60%, it makes a neat way of showing whats needed, when it's needed.
I also created a warning page that warns you to use Mozilla Firefox, because internet explorer isn't very up to date with CSS3.

Day 8 - CSS 3
Today I finished up many of the visuals on my site, including margins, background, mouse hover, etc.
I began to work on the w3 validation icons, and stumbled on a problem, CSS 2 doesn't support transparency. I had to use the CSS 3 validation, with a "CSS" icon without the number. The HTML validation worked flawlessly with XHTML V1.1. I plan on getting the actual superpower content done soon.

Day 7 - CSS (Cont.)
Today I continued to work on my website's CSS, I figured out how to use transparency and repeating background images. Average work completed, I plan to continue what Ive been doing on Monday.

Day 6 - CSS
Today we began learning CSS (Counterstri..) err wait… (Cascading Style Sheets). Cascading style sheets are basically external documents that specify the formatting of the HTML’s structure. All colors, styles, formatting, etc are stored in the CSS file.
We took a really long note on the santax and the usage of CSS documents.
After the note I began working on my CSS file and so far so good, Ive managed to center my text, change my background and text colours, bold words, etc..
Overall I didn’t have much time after the note, but I managed to get quite a bit done for the time I was given.
I plan to try out margins and image backgrounds tomorrow.

Day 5 - FTP again?
Today we began learning about folder structures in websites and web servers. We learned how to specify a file’s location by going to the parent or the child directory.
We then began to continue work on the FTP server where we transferred our HTML files to the web server. The only complaint that I have is that only one person can be connected to a single account on the FTP server simultaneously, which makes it really unstable and inefficient.
My webpage on touque.ca has been up and running since yesterday, awaiting the stylesheet.css file.

Day 4 - More FTP
Today was a shortened day due to gallery of choices and it being a late start.
We began troubleshooting filezillia’s error messages from yesterday’s class and came to the conclusion that “someone” forgot to include the numbers “32” in the host address.
After a successful connection to the server I uploaded my index.html and superpower folder to the web server. I can now access my webpage on the touque.ca website.
My webpage is also now able to go back and forth between the 2 index.html files.
You can check it out HERE

Day 3 - FTP
Today we began learning about FTP (File transfer protocol). Mr. Arkin taught us to download and setup Filezilla client to transfer files to his FTP server.
The grade 11’s and grade 12’s received separate credentials, with not to be shared passwords. And though our password is pretty simple I’m having a hard time remembering it.
After I setup the folder structure i began to use Filezilla, I noticed that I couldn’t connect to the server. It was assumed due to traffic, but even now, I still can’t get it to work…
I also completed the anchor tag between my HTML files that takes me from one page to the next.
I think overall today was pretty productive.

Day 2 - HTML
Surprisingly we began learning HTML (Hyper-text Markup Language) today.
We started off taking notes on the basic structure of HTML and how to create your own validated HTML basic site.
We then began to create the HTML files on the computer, and for some reason Notepad++ wasn’t installing.
Overall HTML is pretty basic for me as Ive done it many times in the past including in grade 9 computer science.
We’re to begin learning CSS (Cascading style sheets) next week.

Day 1
I think the first day was pretty decent, we started off by creating these blogs and a bunch of other accounts for various sites to start us off.
Only bad side was when Mr. Arkin asked us about our computer science backgrounds and I kind of stumbled. :P
Oh and I almost forgot…
Turns out that I cant have my jacket on in class. :/
